Live by the sword

The famed paleontologist O. C. Marsh didn’t just collect dinosaur bones: Marsh acquired this remarkable samurai helmet and face guard in 1889 and gave it to Yale’s Peabody Museum of Natural History. The sea urchin–crowned helmet is one of more than 150 artifacts in the Peabody collection that are now on display as part of the exhibition Samurai and the Culture of the Great Peace. The swords are pretty cool, too.

The exhibit runs through (no pun intended) January 3.
