New York City got all the attention this spring with its new 6,000-vehicle bicycle-sharing program, but Yale also got into the act—albeit on a much smaller scale. On Earth Day, April 22, the university put 50 bicycles into service at 10 locations around the campus for its own version of bike sharing. There’s a $20 registration fee—which is refunded if the user takes a safety course—but the use of the bikes is free, at least for the six-month pilot program.
