A spy meets his end

On this day in 1776, Nathan Hale, Class of 1773, was executed by the British for espionage in New York. Tradition holds that his last words were “I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.” Hale’s statue stands outside Connecticut Hall, where he lived as a student.
